Is driving from chicago to hoffman estates for work everyday a bad idea?

I just got a job in Hoffman Estates, IL. I plan on living near or in the city of Chicago. If I live say near the lake, would it be a big challenge to drive to and from Hoffamn Estates everyday? I heard that driving downtown Chicago can be a *****. Let me know your thoughts.
